Réveil à la campagne
George Riddell (1928-2010)
Gone fishing
Bernard Street sheltered Riddell’s Fishing Tackles for more than 50 years when its owner passed away in June of 2010. Landmark of the local fishing scene, George Riddell’s den was crowded with tackles and lures, most of which he’d make out of toasters and washing machines’ scraps found in the backstreet. Each and every one was uniquely designed to imitate this or that particular bathfish and came with his personal guarantee to catch fish.
Following his death, most of what his shop harboured was sold, souvenirs along.
What can I say? I started off in 1960 with nothing, and built it in what we have today, what’s left. I can’t tell you more.
